Dance

Over the centuries, going even way back to our ancestors, dance has been used in a lot of ways, especially in worship and praise. The way dance has evolved throughout the years is just remarkable. Today dance is no longer used in just making the rain come and go or to give thanks to a good harvest. It is also being used to tell stories or in as far as interpreting a certain emotion.

Today we have a long list of dance forms; folk dance is also broken down into more classifications depending on where it originated or what it was used for. Jazz dance, which traces its history way back to the 1800s and 1900s, this repertoire requires sharp and strong movements. Contemporary dance which is used to refer to the repertoire that originated around the 20th century where instead of concentrating on technique like most dance repertoire do, it tends to concentrate more on the persecution of a choreography and usually requires more versatility than other forms of dances. Hip-hop dancing requires a lot of groove, and of course, ballet – which is known to be the root of good dance techniques. A trained dancer more often than not; has a good background in ballet. Ballet originated from the French court and used to be a dance for the royalties, which is why standing with vigor and upright is emphasized in ballet classes. Today ballet also has different forms, the Vaganova method, R.A.D method and the Cechetti method to name a few.

No matter what form of dance it may be. All dances require discipline and a good understanding of the human body and its function. A trained dancer is usually someone who has a very good knowledge in how to make use of his arms and legs, breathe right and count. The best thing about dance is that it not only keeps you fit but it makes a really good hobby at the same time.
